Open Saturdays and Sundays 13:00-17:00.
Get Out of My House marks Kier Cooke Sandvik's culminating presentation at Podium, following a two-month residency in our gallery space. This exhibition represents Cooke Sandvik's first major solo showcase. Get Out of My House confronts the concealed dynamics of home life, revealing the facades that often lurk behind the four walls of a house. Drawing on memories and emotions as his core materials,
Cooke Sandvik seeks to reclaim power over these deeply personal elements through his artistic practice.
What defines a home? And what secrets does it harbor?
In this exhibition, themes of love and abuse, protection and terror intertwine to examine how childhood traumas shape our understanding of time, space, and identity in later life. Eschewing linear narratives, Cooke Sandvik creates a space where fragmented emotions and raw intensity resonate with unrepresentable memories of psychological trauma. By distancing his work from factual storytelling, he instead offers an emotive and subjective lens, presenting realities profoundly shaped by trauma. The exhibition invites viewers to confront and navigate what frightens and confounds, opening pathways for alternative modes of understanding and healing.
The works in the exhibition focuses on sexuality, memory, and the body, aiming to shed light on psychological traumas and their effects on people and lives through an emotional approach to the creative process. It seeks to explore the erotic and violent potentials within the interior of the home and also as an inner location. Interior design and architecture serve as languages for conveying moods and memories. The gallery is envisioned as a meeting point between a cultural stage and a domestic sphere, achieved through the use of furniture-sculpture hybrids, textiles, and interior aesthetics.
